LGBT Center Opens in CWE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

LGBT Center Opens in CWE

St. Louis, MO – July 29, 2008 -- Welcome Home!

The Lesbian Gay Bi Transgender Community Center of Metropolitan St. Louis will open this Tuesday, July 29, 2008. After a four year journey, the goal of a community center for the St. Louis Metropolitan area that services the LGBT community has been reached. This is a place the LGBT community of the St. Louis and Metro East area can find resources, gather and experience cultural outlets. The Center consists of two meeting rooms, a developing multimedia library, a staff office and a lobby lounge area. The location is 625 North Euclid, Suite 420 in the Euclid Plaza Building in The Central West End of St. Louis, Missouri.

The days and times of operation for The Center will be Noon to 9PM Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please alert the guard at the front desk that you are going to room 420. For privacy issues, attendees do NOT need to sign in. If you have any issues in this matter, please contact or ask for Linda Davis, property manager. After 7PM the main doors will be locked and one will have to call up to The Center at 314-367-1166 for access.

The Grand Opening Celebration will be held on Friday, August 29th at 7PM. Please come and celebrate with us and be introduced to the new location.

The Center is extremely grateful to all of our granters and donors who have allowed us to open our doors and begin to service the community. All of our interns and volunteers have been an invaluable element to the opening of The Center and we are very happy with all of their teamwork and efforts. We welcome all to our open doors and again say, “Welcome Home”.

Respond by 6/9: Paid Volunteer Opportunity

CheckUp Project
Missouri's First LGBT Health Survey

The CheckUp Project is looking for a few good people.

Are you outgoing? Do you love your community and want to be an active supporter? Are you willing to spare some of your Pridefest time to help the community and earn some cash? Then keep reading...

The CheckUp Project is the first state-sponsored effort to take a serious look at the attitudes, behaviors, and beliefs of the LGBTQ community regarding tobacco use. We believe that this project could help identify health disparities prevalent to our community that are currently being ignored by leading health agencies. Participation in this study will help facilitate what we believe is ground breaking research in this area with the potential to generate more funding to address health disparities in the LGBT Community. We deserve the same level of state support as any other population.

What you need to do is:

Submit your name, email address, phone number to Sue McDaniel at mcdanielsu@health.missouri.edu or call her at: 573-230-8582. Please contact by June 9th. Please keep in mind we are looking for enthusiastic outgoing folks who are comfortable walking up to strangers and asking them to complete a paper survey.

You will be acting as representatives of the University of Missouri, hired for a 4-hour period (plus training) as consultants. While under the direction of the University, you will be collecting surveys from Pride Festival Attendees.
