About the art:
The essence of my art centers around color and emotion, each piece means something to me and hopefully to the viewer as well. When I create, I start on the computer, drawing in MS Paint with the mouse. After that stage is complete, I print onto canvas and embellish with acrylic paints. My inspiration comes from many sources, but mostly from feelings and emotions that surround me every day. I believe with each piece, a part of me shines through as well.

*New* Intro to Kundalini Yoga Classes at The LGBT Center of St. Louis

Queer Yoga is now featuring A Brief Introduction to Kundalini Yoga class at The LGBT Center of St. Louis for the next few months with Dharamjodh Singh Khalsa Psy. D, MSW.

About Kundalini Yoga:

Kundalini Yoga is the original of the twenty-two schools of yoga and is called the "mother yoga." It works on your entire nervous and glandular system. The word "kundalini" means awareness, and manifesting the hidden potential of that awareness. In the yogic tradition Kundalini energy is portrayed as a coiled serpent lying dormant at the base of the spine. To raise the Kundalini means to awaken and enliven this creative energy.

What to wear and bring?

Wear loose clothing or exercise clothes. It is best if you do not wear socks. Bring an exercise pad, pillows to sit on (or to prop your knees with) and a blanket to cover yourself during deep relaxation. You should also bring a bottle of water to drink.

About the art:
Lewis' work is based on controversial issues relating to Black Americans and other minority groups that continually fight socio-political issues. From an early beginning, she showed a deep concern with the social issues and the lack of self-love elicited from her community. In a way, Lewis is re-writing *his-story* and replying with different perspective, *her-story*. In one of her first pieces *I am* an etching, she expresses an ode in memory of her ancestors and the pride she has in her roots. Furthermore, philosophers such as Fanon and Camus have heavily influenced Marissa Lewis' work.

About the artist:

Marissa Lewis is a senior-year Studio Art student at Webster University. She has studied various mediums including sculpture and print-making. Marissa also volunteers her time with The LGBT Center of St. Louis and has been an active volunteer for close to three years. This will be Marissa's first showing.

LGBT Center's New Email Subscription Service

Hello all,

To streamline the email distribution of our upcoming events and newsletters, we have added a new service called Google Feedburner to deliver our emails to you.

What does this mean?
If you wish to continue to receive our newsletters, you'll need to click on the link below to sign up to receive email through the new service:
http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/mailverify?uri=lgbtcenterstl&loc=en_US

You'll see a form that will look like this one below, fill it out to start receiving our emails:

(Clicking on the image above will allow you to start subscribing, too.)

Is it secure?
Yes - Your email address is sent through a secured "https" site, so your email address will be kept secure. You will NOT be contacted with any unsolicited information from Google or it's affiliates.

Why are you switching?
Using Google's FeedBurner service gives us a chance to free up more time for our board and staff members to focus on better programming and service with The Center. The service will also allow you to be updated faster and more regularly.

Can't you just add me automatically?

Long story short - No. Most services that allow us to upload an already existing email list cost a lot of money for a list as big as ours, especially if we send more than one email per month.

Where can I get old emails that I've missed?
Any email sent through this service will also be posted on the blog at http://findmycenter.blogspot.com (a link to the blog is also on The Center's website at http://www.findmycenter.com).

When will this all start?
Right now. Enter your email address in the Email Subscription box on the upper-right side of The Center's blog at http://findmycenter.blogspot.com or subscribe on The Center's website at http://www.findmycenter.com .

Questions?
Email us at info@findmycenter.com .
